SIMMERED POTATO WITH BEEF AND ONION

(Japanese)



INGREDIENTS (4 servings):

200 g beef round (slice), 3 potatoes, 1 1/2 onion, 20 g green peas, 2 tablespoons salad oil, 2 cups water
Seasonings:5 tablespoons sugar, 3 tablespoons "sake" (Japanese rice wine), 1 tablespoon sweetened cooking "sake" ("mirin"), 4 tablespoons soy sauce ("shoyu")
HOW TO COOK:
  1. Cut beef into 4 to 5 cm pieces.
  2. Wash potatoes, peel and cut into two to three pieces. Cut onion into large wedges. Soak green peas in boiling water for one minute. (3) Heat oil in pan, add (1) and saute. Add (2) and saute. (4) Add water and seasonings, toss well and cover with drop lid. Continue to cook until potatoes are soft.
  3. Add green peas, turn off heat and put on serving plate.
